The upcoming Netflix series The Defenders has been in the works for a few years now. The journey we’re currently on began when Marvel announced that they were going to be producing several TV shows for Netflix that would be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2013. Even then the plan was that once Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist had all been released, the four of them would join together for The Defenders miniseries. Four years later, we’re close to the premiere of the final solo series Iron Fist, and they’re now filming The Defenders. The upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly features some great photos teasing the forthcoming event. Check out the cover below, which reveals the first official look at the team.
While most of the photos seem to be purely for promotional purposes, there are a few that were taken during shooting. One of the photos features Luke Cage being escorted in prison, presumably picking up pretty much where his solo series left off.
Interestingly, the photos aren’t solely dedicated to our four main heroes, as a couple of them also give us a glimpse at a few of the secondary characters that will be appearing in the mini-series. You can see Colleen Wing standing beside Danny Rand/Iron Fist in the image below, while the following features Misty Knigh, apparently interrogating Jessica Jones.
In addition to those, there’s this awesome group shot featuring Mike Colter, Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, and Finn Jones standing in front of the graffitied truck. Lastly, there are four really awesome photos for each of them individually. They are all kind of lit in such a way that each photo takes on the color associated with the character. You can see all of those right below.
As awesome as these images are, we’re still a bit away from The Defenders actually hitting Netflix. Iron Fist still has to make it’s debut in March and The Punisher series may end up preceding the mini-series as well. The Defenders stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Simone Missick and Jessica Henwick among many others, and is slated to make it’s premiere later this year. In the meantime, be sure to check back for updates and our ongoing coverage of the Marvel/Netflix series.
