The Toys That Made Us: New Series Trailer Explores The History of Toys

The eight-episode docu-series The Toys That Made Us focuses on some of the most iconic toy brands that have influenced pop culture. The series interviews collectors, historians, fans, and more on the objects that kept kids so busy and adults almost manic. Everything is here from G.I. JOE to Barbie; from Transformers to Star Wars.

Perspectives from such collectors as Steve Sansweet, who happens to be one of biggest Star Wars superfans in the world, is but one example of how the series will tackle its format. We hope it isn’t just a by-the-books explanation but something that injects some personal touches that make us feel where they are coming from; what their life was like growing up. Guess we’ll find out in about a week.

The streaming service has certainly been diving into nostalgia these past years. Netflix has been responsible for bringing back Full House and Gilmore Girls for additional seasons as well as the 80s nostalgia-fueled overtones in what is perhaps their most successful original series, Stranger Things. The Toys That Made Us is another attempt to take children from the 80s on a trip back to their childhood, all while offering some insight and focus.

The creators of the show really seem to be huge fans of the toys the documentary will talk about. The Toys That Made Us will debut in its entirety on Netflix starting Friday, December 22nd.
