Tim Burton's unreleased Superman Lives (It was the Nic Cage one, remember?) was the victim of behind-the-scenes conflict. The film was to be released in 1998; however, the three main forces involved with its production - Burton, screenwriter Kevin Smith and producer Jon Peters- couldn't agree on anything. There has yet to be an in-depth study of why the film was never released, though. Producer/director Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast) hopes to clear things up with a feature-length documentary, The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?. Schnepp launched a Kickstarter campaign yesterday in hopes of raising $98,000 to fund the film.
“The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? is a Feature Length Documentary about the unmade movie Superman Lives,” says Schnepp. “This film, out of all the various attempts to make a Superman movie between 1987 and 2006, would have stood the test of time and become a bonafide Cult Classic nowadays. I am not alone with my intense interest in knowing everything I can about this project, and so now I’m embarking on making a Documentary that will cover everything ever made for this film, from interviewing as many people as I can who were involved, to including actually recreating scenes from the script!!!”
Only one day in, the project has already piqued the interest of 305 backers who’ve pledged a total of $16,381. At that rate, Schnepp should have no problem meeting his goal. if interested in learning about backer rewards and/or donating, this link’s for you.
