Anyone who knows me knows that as much as I geek out over the movies' ability to transport us to impossible worlds, I also love to pull back the curtain to see and to touch the things that make those imaginary worlds possible. Forget the big name actors... if I could spend all my time walking around the empty sets used in Star Wars, or hold a pulse rifle from Aliens, or touch the fabric of the costumes used in Ghostbusters, I'm a happy man. So I was happily surprised when I got an invite to check out the Prop Store of London facilities in Chatsworth, California, just north of Los Angeles. Chief Operations Officer for the LA office, Brandon Alinger, gave myself and fellow PopCultureGeek.com writer Luis Calderon a private tour of their showroom and the nearly 10,000 square foot warehouse where they house all of the rare bits of movie history that they have acquired over the years. Of course, the LA office holds only a some of the Prop Store's complete holdings, as it was originally founded in London by CEO Stephen Lane, who just happened to be in town when we stopped by.
