With the Avengers movie coming to theaters in the next few weeks, wouldn't it be amazing to actually own some of the props or costumes of your favorite big screen comic heroes? I know I'd love to get the Captain America shield used by Chris Evans in the Captain America: the First Avenger movie and fill it with popcorn as I watched Avengers on May 4th. Okay, maybe I wouldn't do that, but I'd still love to own it, possibly sleep with it, or maybe just fend off alien attacks with it. Any of those would be nice. Of course, if I had the big money, that fantasy could become a reality this April 14th, when Profiles in History and Marvel Studios put up for auction a huge collection of items from last year's film along with a number of props from Thor and Iron Man 2 to make a cool event even cooler. If you want to see some of these items in person, you should head to C2E2 in Chicago from April 13th to the 15th. The auction itself takes place on April 14th., but whether you're at the show in person or not, fans can be entered into a raffle to win a recreation of a classic Captain America comic that was used in the film! (just LIKE the page and enter the contest by clicking the CONTEST box)

Last week, Pop Culture Geek was invited to take a tour of the Profiles in History offices in Calabasas, CA, and get a hands-on look at these amazing Captain America props and costumes. I got to hold Thor‘s hammer and Captain America‘s shield, both used on screen by the heroes in their respective films. I even got to hold a Cosmic Cube (if the world we live in is more awesome now because of this, you’re welcome). As a big Marvel geek, it was thrilling to be able to touch and interact with these iconic items from the films and from comic book history. Profiles in History president and CEO, Joe Maddalena, was kind enough to tell us a little bit about what this epic auction is all about…

So if you’ve got the bucks and aren’t doing anything on April 14th, I suggest you either head up to Chicago or log on the official Profiles in History website to make your bid and maybe go home with a piece of Marvel movie history! Remember, you must be pre-registered to bid. A catalog of all the items in the auction is available online and in print format as well. To whet your appetite for this amazing collection of props, here is a few pictures from our visit to Profiles in History. Also, I want to give a big thanks to Joe and Fong for welcoming us into their amazing secret headquarters!
