Dead or Alive - You're coming with me.
In 1987 director Paul Verhoeven was handed an X rating by the MPAA for excessive violence in his newest action flick RoboCop. And though it would eventually get watered down enough to obtain an R, Detroit Police Officer Alex Murphy and his postmortem alter ego RoboCop would still go on to obtain ’80s pop culture icon status. Now, more than a quarter-century later, OmniCorp is bringing the tin can cop back for another go around.
This was Columbia Pictures’ press release description:
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
This new RoboCop boasts an amazing cast, which we’ve mentioned before, and this first trailer is pretty solid:
For me, the chrome suit looks way cooler than the black. And while a car explosion seems to lack the same brutal tone of the shotgun scene in the original (likely a result of the PG-13 rating), the trailer on a whole looks pretty good.
