Man meets machine in this new Robocop trailer...

The story is pretty straightforward, in 2028 Detroit needs a new brand of cop. The kind of cop who’s not afraid to get his hands or his gun dirty. The kind of cop who can stand as the bulwark against the rising tide of crime. A cop who’s half man and half machine, a Robocop! In a world were the nefarious Omni Corp’s war machines patrol the city streets of other nations the corporate giant unveils its plan to bring a new robotic face to America’s crime ridden and robo-phobic streets.

This, the third trailer, kicks off with a new we can rebuild him vibe showing us shots of high tech surgery and the clean room where Gary Oldman gets to ogle his new creation. Then things get a robotic kick into high gear with the titular hero jumping, punching, leaping from motorcycles and blasting his way through an army of robotic foes, but this time feeling more human than in the original.

The¬†reboot doesn’t seem to stray too far from Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic, yet it remains to be seen how much of the original’s satirical flair remains. The PG-13 rating all but guarantees less graphic violence, but Brazilian filmmaker and Director Jos√© Padilha (Elite Squad: The Enemy Within) seems to be hitting all the right notes in this new trailer.

Robocop will open in 2014.
