Palladium books has pitched an idea to the fans, who helped crowdfund the first Robotech miniatures game.
In the 1980s there were a number of cartoons that got us out of bed on a Saturday morning, and for a lot of early morning watchers, none of them are quite as memorable as Robotech. Veritechs soared through the sky taking on enemy robots from another world. This took off with many companies coming out with toys, t-shirts and even releasing the show on VHS. Palladium Books was the first company to license and create an RPG based off the popular franchise. The game was a big seller and now they are looking to take this license in a new direction.
Robotech RPG Tactics is a new miniatures game that is going to be released in partnership with Ninja Division. The miniatures are going to be sculpted and highly detailed, as these multipart minis can be posed in any number of ways. There are going to be units based off not just the Veritechs that were the stars of the show but the Destroids as well. These giant hulking mecha were bristling with weapons. Even the giant MK II Monster will have a miniature in this game along with a number of other crafts.
This would not have been possible without Kickstarter, as there was over $1.4 million dollars pledged by over 5000 people. The rules of this game are as fast paced as the battles laid out in the anime series. Instead of opting for a very complex rules system, they made it easy to learn so as not to scare off people who are new to tabletop gaming. The game debuted at this past GenCon in August, and players were ecstatic about this new miniatures game.
And the best part about Robotech RPG Tactics is that the miniatures can be used in RPG sessions or even displayed like models. The game is priced at around $90 and will be released sometime this Fall.
