Say Anything frontman Max Bemis is the latest musician to cross over into the world of comics. In April, BOOM! Studios will publish the first issue of Polarity, a four-issue miniseries written by Bemis and drawn by artist Jorge Coehlo.

Here’s the plot: Timothy Woods, a Brooklyn-based artist who suffers from Bipolar Disorder, is involved in an automobile accident. His tragedy leads him to two earth-shattering revelations – “his mental instability is more than just a disorder” and “his bipolar medication hasn’t been subuduing depression and uncontrollable mania – it’s been suppressing his superpowers.” These discoveries influence Woods to begin fighting against his disease and an “onslaught of wretched human villainy.” Will said onslaught be led by a pretentious artist from the community our hero is involved with? Let’s hope!

“I’m thrilled to announce that my first comic series, Polarity, will be debuting in April through the wonderful folks at BOOM! studios,” says Bemis. “I think fans of my music in particular will be excited that the roots of Polarity lie in the story that I created for the musical that never was, but became the blueprint for our first record …Is A Real Boy.”

Here’s something else Say Anything fans will be excited about: each issue of Polarity comes with a download code for a new song written & performed by Bemis specifically for the project. There are no plans to release them anywhere else.
