The latest television spot (slightly blurred version taped from television embedded below) for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a bit of a surprise. Benedict Cumberbatch, who will voice Smaug the Dragon in The Hobbit trilogy, led fans to believe we will only briefly see his character before the end of Journey. The TV spot seems to indicate otherwise, though.
Just a few seconds into the trailer we catch a glimpse of what appears to be Smaug. The creature in question appears a couple of times over the course of the 32 second advertisement. Does that mean the first film will show more of Smaug than originally expected? Will his appearance(s) be more than just a passing glance? Will he be a descendent of Khan? We don’t have too much longer to wait, folks. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be in theaters on December 14.
As an aside, if you’re interested in experiencing The Hobbit in 48 frames per second, here’s a list of theaters that will allow you to do so. Hat tip to 48fpsMovies.com for the link.
