Sundays on Adult Swim are about to get a little dirtier with the introduction of Mr. Pickles and the continuation of Squidbillies.
Adult Swim announced plans today for a Sunday night double header starting September 21st, featuring both the eighth season of quintessential favorite Squidbillies and newcomer Mr. Pickles.
Squidbillies is a long-running favorite, featuring a brand new cover of its theme song every week this season by Dwight Yoakam, Todd Rundgren, Centro-matic, King Khan and the Shrines, and more. You can be sure Early Cuyler and the rest of the gang will be up to their usual shenanigans, which typically means spending the night in jail or going on some sort of politically incorrect tirade against whomever has wronged the family. And it’s hilarious. Up at bat for this season are topics such as marriage inequality, speciesism, the impending “Russian snake apocalypse,” and, well, taint cancer.
Mr. Pickles, on the other hand, is a new series produced by Will Carsola of HBO’s Funny or Die Presents, as well as Dave Stewart. It follows the old-fashioned world of Old Town, which is being taken over by the modern world. The Goodman family is the center of the series, with their six-year-old son Tommy and best friend Mr. Pickles (a border collie) taking center stage.
The pilot is a good indication of what you can expect from Mr. Pickles, which can best be described as a deliciously disturbing mash-up of Moral Orel and Metalocalypse. Mr. Pickles is definitely not a good boy, but he’ll still get the pickles he loves to eat.
There’s no word yet on whether or not the first episode of Mr. Pickles will be this very pilot, but it should give you a pretty good idea of whether or not you’ll want to watch it each Sunday night at midnight ET/PT, followed by Squidbillies at 12:15 AM ET/PT.
