The world’s productivity levels stand to drop immensely thanks to this week’s announcement of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the first StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty expansion. It will be unleashed on March 13, 2013 for Windows (XP-8) and Macintosh for digitally and on DVD for $39.99. Of course, there will be pricier Collector’s Editions available for purchase that day as well.
According to a press release from Blizzard, Heart continues the story of “Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, as she gathers the remnants of the zerg Swarm and plots her revenge against the treacherous dictator of the Koprulu sector, Arcturus Mengsk.”It will add several new multiplayer units and enhancements to the game, too. That makes the $39.99 price tag beyond reasonable, in my humble opinion.
“With Heart of the Swarm, our goal has been to expand on the multiplayer action and cinematic storytelling of Wings of Liberty,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Combined with features like unranked matchmaking and our new leveling system, this expansion elevates the StarCraft II experience for players of all skill levels.”
The two premium versions of “Heart” – “Digital Deluxe Edition” and “Collector’s Edition”- are both packed with an array of bonuses. For $79.99, the physical “Collector’s Edition” will give you the following: a Behind-The-Scenes DVD & Blu-ray, a soundtrack CD, a hardcover art book and a Zerg Rush Mousepad. The $59.99 “Digital Deluxe” edition comes with all the digital goods from standard “Collector’s Edition.”
