Based on the Dark Horse graphic novel by Peter M Lenkov and Lucas Marangon, the first R.I.P.D. trailer gives us Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in probably the weirdest movie of the summer.
The title’s acronym stands for the “Rest in Peace Department” and it’s about a newly dead cop who figures out his services are still needed in the afterlife. So he’s partnered up with a slightly more experienced lawman (by a few centuries) and they go on a hunt for dark, unlawful souls that inhabit the world. So far, the consensus is that the film looks like a cross between Men in Black, Ghostbusters, and a touch of True Grit thanks to Jeff Bridges’ ornery sheriff character. I could blow a few more sentences trying to explain the point of the film in further detail, but watching the trailer will do a much better job.
Watch for R.I.P.D. to tear into theaters July 19th in 3D.
