Game of Thrones fans have been through a lot this season, losing characters they held dear and learning new twists that altered the course of many individual character arcs. The show has become as much a source of stress for viewers as it has been one for entertainment.
As promised, the show has delivered breathtaking drama and intrigue week after week. As the credits rolled each Sunday it was often at the tail end of enormous loss or victory, depending on where your allegiances lie, and so fans have turned to the only sensible way to deal with the sorrow of lost characters:
No, Not that, although it might help. We’re talking about some of the funniest gags the internet has produced to make Game of Thrones a tad less devastating for these past four months. Game of Thrones‘s viewership has among it a wealth of talented, funny people that have put together some genuinely satisfying respite from the battles, and even worse, the weddings that have turned each week into a water cooler moment to talk about every Monday. We’ve assembled a list with some of our favorites from season 4 to prepare you for the finale this weekend.
WARNING: THIS WHOLE ARTICLE IS FULL OF SPOILERS!!
Tobuscus’s literal season four trailer:
And of course, there’s The Hound’s love affair with chicken:
As the season progressed Daenarys freed more slaves and rose to become a true queen, while the lovably evil Joffrey found his exit at the bottom of a cup of wine. That left his little brother to become king and go through puberty all on the same day. Jamie left us with some very mixed feelings and the imp went into lock up for filicide – and that was only in the first half of the season!
In one the season’s most dramatic episodes, Tyrion Lannister goes to trial for Joffrey’s murder. But in the outtakes Peter Dinklage and Nikolai Coster-Waldau still found some time to kick it:
While fans await the fate of one of the best loved characters of the series, the remaining few episodes have given us plenty else to worry about.
Littlefinger, at first merely a smarmy whoremonger, is proving to be quite the evil genius. In the time it takes to deliver a well placed pimp smack, he takes out his new wife, likely securing himself a spot atop The Eyrie, and certainly securing his role as utter creep.
Littlefinger gets some help from Ludacris to send the message:
Or this version, which gets the audience involved:
And of course in the same episode, Sansa had her moment in the sun too:
Episode 8, while making us wait until the bitter end of the meager hour we get, our hero’s hero, The Red Viper battles the loathsome Lannister’s assassin on tap. This scene delivered one of the series’ most mind blowing moments. Pun completely intended. Here is a nice alternative to the fight that left the audience in tatters.
There are also two wonderful gifs showing how Oberyn might have handled the duel with The Mountain…
To think, all he had to do was wear his helmet.
Last week’s episode, The Watchers on the Wall, took us from the drama of King’s Landing to what the people of Westeros should actually be more concerned about – The incoming Wildling invasion at The Wall. The brave men of the Night’s Watch faced the first wave of what was promised Winter would bring, including giants on freaking mammoths, but they didn’t lay down. They came into the fight like a wrecking ball.
Sadly, every battle has its epic deaths.
With so many recent changes made to the story from the books, no one knows exactly what is coming tonight. On the more serious side of things, take a peek at Geek’s on going coverage of Game of Thrones to reflect on all the happenings from season four and beyond.
