The latest quirky stop motion form the studio that brought us Coraline and ParaNorman is taking us to a world we had never imagined, the underground world of The Boxtrolls.
The first The Boxtrolls teaser trailer touched hearts and blew away stereotypes, giving audiences hope for what could be a very different kind of family entertainment.
While the teaser only hints at the story behind the beautifully animated feature, the newest full length international trailer has people making plans to take the kids this September.
Based on the children’s book Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow, and staring the voice talents of Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Game of Thrones), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), Elle Fanning (Maleficent),Toni Collette (United States of Terra), Ben Kingsley (Hugo), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), Jared Harris (Fringe), and Tracy Morgan (30 Rock), the feature follows the adventures of a human named Eggs.
An unlikely hero at best, Eggs (Hempstead-Wright) is an orphan boy raised by boxtrolls, which are pretty much exactly what they sound like, trolls that live in boxes. Of course, even adorably ugly trolls have enemies and when Archibald Snatcher (Kingsley) starts rounding up the boxtrolls in order to keep the city streets troll free, Eggs must venture into a world stranger than anything he has ever known, the real world. With the help of the lovely Winnie, Eggs will do his best to save his family while learning that being odd isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Directed by one time Disney and Nickleodeon animator, Graham Annable, winner of the 2002 Harvey award for best new talent and Anthony Stacchi, co-director of Open Season, the virtual new comers offer up an untainted perspective and some impressive previous work that, when coupled with the star filled cast, puts the The Boxtrolls on the must see list.
The Boxtrolls is set to hit U.S theaters September 26, 2014.
