In lieu of all of the San Diego Comic Con news, Lionsgate finally debuted the first teaser trailer for Mockingjay Part 1, and it doesn't disappoint.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 has been on the mouth of fans worldwide with it’s eerie viral campaign and mini teaser clips. And since Comic Con International is Christmas in July for us geeks, attendees of the con got a first look at the teaser trailer Friday. Fans outside the con didn’t have to wait long as the official Mockingjay Facebook page debuted the teaser trailer online, which gives us a a minute long, spoiler free glimpse into post Catching Fire world of Panem, and we’ll just say we’re already anticipating the full trailer.
The political angst is building up, and the explosive aftermath of Hunger Games: Catching Fire appears to be catching up with Panem, particularly in District 13. In the teaser we see President Snow with a no holds barred approach to the rebellion, as he proclaims severe consequences for those who support The Mockingjay and the rebellion.
Perhaps the most exciting element about this trailer is that viewers get a first look at several highly anticipated new characters including: Julianne Moore’s President Alma Coin, and Natalie Dormer’s Cressida (rocking a sweet un-Margaery-like half shaved head), yet there’s no sign of Peeta and Johanna in their milky white duds from the two teaser clips released beforehand. Even Katnis’s appearance is understated until the very end of the trailer as she accepts to call to fight for the rebellion.
The late Phillip Seymour Hoffman can be seen here as well reprising his role as fan favorite, Plutarch Heavensbee, convincing President Alma Coin that Katniss can still rally the people of Panem for a revolution. But Coin counters, “She can’t handle this. The games destroyed her.” It’s a question that viewers find themselves asking after this trailer; can Katniss handle what’s to come? Even as she says, “I am, I will.” There doesn’t look like there’s much flame left in ‘The Girl on Fire’.
