The Shining started out life originally as a book by Stephen King. However, when film auteur Stanley Kubrick took the novel and gave us his own interpretation of the events surrounding Jack Torrance and his family, something happened.
It became embraced by film fans and conspiracy theorists alike. To this day, phrases like “Red Rum” and “Here’s Johnny” are well known to even the most novice of film viewers. The meanings and supposed hidden messages within the film have inspired documentaries to be made on its more intriguing content. Now it seems to have inspired something else as well – housewares.
This joint venture between the popular print selling company Mondo, and cult knitwear specialists Middle of Beyond is something fans of The Shining are sure to be amazed by. Mondo have been branching out their product line for sometime now, creating limited edition VHS and Vinyl releases.
Middle of Beyond have a slightly more limited output available, but they make up for lack of product with truly inventive pieces of clothing.
Their combined creation is called Mondo 237 (a play on the iconic room number Jack visits while in the hotel) and it is an eclectic array of items. It takes the color scheme of the original interior of the Overlook hotel and brings it’s 1970s retro look to items as diverse as a knitted ski-mask, rug and sweater. Below is the collection in full.
So if you ever wanted to re-do your room, now is the time to adorn that living space in the glorious colors of the Overlook. It could look something like this.
Or if you take it to the extreme you could go for a knitted American Horror Story look instead.
The line is available for pre-order now, but is not actually released until the 10th of May. Prices vary, but with the cheapest item listed at $35 (and the dearest $300) it makes it pretty easy for most people to have a part of this collection in their homes.
