The Simpsons’ Springfield Planned for Universal Studios

This might be the greatest news in the history of anything: last week, Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, announced plans to recreate Springfield from The Simpsons at its theme park. The park already boasts areas inspired by Harry Potter, Marvel Comics, Doctor Seuss, Popeye, and more, but this latest addition should prove to be one of the most popular to appear there.

According to a press release published by Universal Studios, the Springfield recreation will feature some of the most iconic locations from the show, including Krusty Burger, the Android’s Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop, the Lard Lad Donuts, and Moe’s Tavern. And, amazingly, Moe’s will serve up actual Duff Beer, specially brewed for the park.

Take a look at this concept video and try not to lose your mind:

And here’s a video of the actual construction efforts underway in Orlando:

The real-world Springfield will be created to complement the already-running “Simpsons Ride,” and the forthcoming “Kang & Kodos Twirl-and-Hurl,” not to mention the Kwik-E-Mart that’s already there—and serves Squishees.

Truly, Denise Sirkot, Gracie Films’ president of worldwide brand, summed up the announcement best:

“It has been an honor to bring the world of the Simpsons to life in such a letter-perfect way. Truly this is the Krustyest place on earth.

There’s no word yet on just when the recreation will come together. The press release doesn’t mention any kind of start date. But don’t be surprised to see the show’s millions of fans flocking to “Springfield” as part of a pilgrimage as soon as the doors open. This cannot happen quickly enough.
