Get ready for a big box of conspiracy, intrigue, and action -- all designed to be wrapped up in 60-90 minutes.
IDW Games and Pandasaurus Games have announced a new X-Files board game in which players “take on the role of Mulder, Scully, and the X-Files team as they work to uncover global conspiracies and threats while going up against various members of the Syndicate.” The game is set to be released in July and will set you back about $60.
Game designer Kevin Wilson, whose credits include Arkham Horror, Cosmic Encounter, and Sid Meier’s Civilization: the Board Game, is a longtime fan.
“I used to watch X-Files every Friday night with Dad (Mom was too creeped out by it), so it was really great getting to revisit the show (thanks, Netflix!) while researching for the game,” he wrote on his blog. He added that he “had a great time designing it.”
The X-Files game focuses on material from the first three seasons of the show, and one player actually takes on the role of the Smoking Man and is in direct opposition to the other 2-4 players.
Artist menton3, who is part of the creative team on The X-Files: Season 10 comic book series (also from IDW), supplied the box art for the project as well as served as art director.
IDW Games is a division of IDW Publishing, which publishes the ongoing X-Files: Season 10 comic book series, as well as a host of other licensed books (including Star Trek, Ghostbusters, My Little Pony) as well as original properties.
