Valve Looking to Enter the Hardware Market

Although Valve denied they’re actually working on the much speculated about “Steam Box” console, it appears the company will be entering the hardware market. Over the weekend, though, the rumors started up again after a “Hardware Industrial Engineer” position was posted to the company’s website.

“We’re frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space…,” reads the job listing, “so we’re jumping in. Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven’t really changed in any meaningful way over the years.”

Since the company flat-out denied the “Steam Box,” this will likely be something else. Perhaps they will gift the world with a more comfortable keyboard or mouse. Hey, how about a sweet joystick made from clear plastic that allows you to see where the magic happens? Valve has yet to reveal exactly what they’re working on, but it will no doubt be more innovative that that.

The “Steam Box” console sounds like a fantastic idea that I wish the company would pursue. I hope their denial was a ruse and the job listing marks the beginning of their entry into the console war. Feel free to post your theories and wishes in the comment section.
