Pierce Brosnan returns to television in the AMC drama The Son. Based on Philipp Meyer’s bestselling novel of the same name, the 10-episode season will follow Brosnan as Eli McCullough, the family patriarch of a wealthy Texas family who grew up among the Comanche tribe.
Brosnan replaced Sam Neill, who was originally cast in March 2016 but left for personal reasons. Author Philipp Meyer will serve as a writer and executive producer on the show. The drama follows the McCullough family’s rise and fall over multiple generations, concurrent with America’s birth as a superpower.
The show marks a return to the small screen for Brosnan, after his last big TV role back in the 1980’s on NBC’s Remington Steele. Brosnan also returned briefly in the A&E miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s Bag Of Bones. He is best known as the British Super Spy 007 James Bond, an iconic character he played over the course of four films.

“The ten-episode, one-hour drama traces the transformation of Eli McCullough (Brosnan) from good-natured innocent to calculating killer. He loses everything on the wild frontier, setting him on the path to building a ranching-and-oil dynasty of unsurpassed wealth and privilege. The series deftly explores how Eli’s ruthlessness and quest for power triggers consequences that span generations, as the McCullough’s rise to become one the most powerful family dynasties in Texas.”
The Son will premiere in the spring of 2017.
