HBO has released the first trailer for Bill Hader’s Barry, about a hitman who discovers a passion for acting. The show was ordered to series back in June and will act as one of Hader’s most ambitious projects to date.
Barry centers around an ex-Marine (Hader) who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene. The series, which is directed and co-written alongside Seinfeld alum and Silicon Valley executive producer Alec Berg will be debuting this spring, 2018.

Barry also stars Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg (Hindsight), Gotham‘s Anthony Carrigan, and Glenn Fleshler (Billions, True Detective). The latter two will play a pair of Chechen gangsters and prove that they are incredibly reliable in supporting roles. Carrigan, in particular, has become a real MVP as Victor Zsasz on FOX’s Gotham this current season. Winkler will portray acting teacher Gene Cosineau, while veteran character actor Root will play Fuches, Barry’s handler who appears to have found himself in a bit of a predicament when the series begins.
The show was one of the casualties in HBO’s catastrophic blow to their security and intellectual property this past summer when hackers from India leaked important episodes to some of their biggest shows, including Game Of Thrones. Demanding $6 million to keep quiet, four of the hackers have since been arrested, and are now awaiting sentencing. Barry, along with Insecure and Larry David’s long-awaited return to Curb Your Enthusiasm were also part of the hack.
Barry debuts on HBO later this Spring.
