This past week’s episode of Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars saw the return of a fan-favorite character in animated form. Peggy Carter returned to the Marvel universe in the Christmas-themed episode ‘New Year’s Resolution’ and she was voiced by none other than Hayley Atwell.
In the episode, past and present collide as Howard Stark and Peggy Carter team up with Iron Man and Captain America to save the timestream from Kang the Conqueror. Hayley Atwell, who memorably played Peggy both in several Marvel Studios films – beginning with Captain America: The First Avenger – and then in her own TV series, Marvel’s Agent Carter, returned to lend her vocal talents to the character. Once again bringing life back to the spunky S.H.I.E.L.D. founder.
Disney provided a clip from the episode, which was released online, and shows Peggy and Cap, along with Iron Man and Howard Stark teaming up to fight Kang. You can check it out below:
Atwell has made only brief appearances in Marvel properties since the cancellation of her ABC series Agent Carter, and fans have always held out hope that she would return to her own spotlight series. Even if this was just an animated version of the character in a Sunday morning cartoon show, we Agent Carter fans will take what we can get. Earlier this year when Atwell met with Marvel, but it was presumably just for her role here in Avengers: Secret Wars. Many fans are still keen for a revival of Agent Carter, the ABC/Marvel TV show that was canceled after just two seasons.
Avengers: Secret Wars followed hot off the heels of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, which was recently canceled. The Marvel and Disney XD series loosely follows the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity and shares a universe with fellow animated series Ultimate Spider-Man. The show is currently in its fourth season as Avengers: Secret Wars, which sees Black Panther leading a new team of Avengers.
Avengers: Secret Wars currently airs Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. ET on Disney XD.
