Marvel Cinematic Universe

With The Defenders due to drop on Netflix in less than a month, Marvel released all sorts of goodies in support of the highly anticipated team up of the street level heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, there was the brand new full-length trailer as well as a separate clip starring Sigourney Weaver’s character and Madame Gao, but they also dropped a second clip focused on Matt Murdock. We find Matt in a familiar setting as he sits in confessional with Father Lantom wrestling with the conflicting thoughts and emotions he has in the wake of Elektra’s death.

It’s a nice little scene that we’re likely to see at the beginning of the upcoming series as they establish where our heroes are at mentally before delving headlong into the narrative. In this instance, it will work especially well considering Elektra has been revived by The Hand. It’s good to see them continue to use Lantom in this fashion. In spite of the fact that there are other people that now know his secret, Father Lantom continues to be Matt’s confidant. With Elektra back, Matt will have to figure out his feelings in a hurry because it doesn’t look like she’ll be very friendly when they meet again.

The Defenders will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist band together as they fight to save New York City from The Hand and Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious villain. With it being a massive crossover the large cast includes Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones alongside Cox alongside much of the individual series’ supporting cast members.

The long awaited team up will finally drop in just a few short weeks on August 18.
