Today is International Women’s Day, so it made sense for Hulu to debut their new teaser for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2, showcasing Elisabeth Moss’ Offred absolutely done playing by the rules of men. The dystopian drama that has been both a massive critical, awards and audience success returns next month.
In the quick clip, we hear Offred reciting what appears to be a checklist for requirements in Gilead:
“Wear the red dress. Wear the wings. Shut your mouth. Be a good girl. Roll over, and spread your legs. Yes, ma’am. May the Lord open,”
Suddenly, she interrupts herself: “Seriously, what the actual f—?”

Less than a minute long, the new teaser is a series of flashing images, showcasing a few quick glimpses at returning characters, including Samira Wiley’s Moira, Ann Dowd’s Aunt Lydia, and Alexis Bledel as Ofglen. The focus of this season is considerably bleaker (yes, it can get bleaker) and chances are Handmaid’s Tale will continue its awards run, but we won’t get our first look at how Offred continues her struggle to secure a future for her child away from the horror of Gilead until late April.
The final episode of season 1 left off right where the book ended. Although showrunner Bruce Miller said that some of season 2 will draw from the novel, there’s no way to predict where The Handmaid’s Tale will take us in the highly anticipated second season, and given the current political climate and cultural movement, the series is will likely prove to be one of the most hotly relevant and incendiary shows this year.

The Handmaid’s Tale also stars Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel. The first two episodes of the second season will begin streaming on Hulu on Wednesday, April 25.
