Amazon has released their first full trailer for The Tick, the latest iteration of the crime-fighting character originally created in 1986 by Ben Edlund.

The superhero-spoofing comedy will be debuting its first season in two parts. The new The Tick TV series is of note because it will not only follow the impossibly strong, absurdly literal titular hero played by Peter Serafinowicz but focus more heavily on the average accountant named Arthur Everest (played by Griffin Newman), who becomes The Tick’s sidekick and sets out to help protect the City from a sadistic supervillain.

In the exclusive official trailer, both The Tick and Arthur cross paths and set out on, as the Tick puts it, “an epic tale rife with destiny, adventure, bloodlust, and good against evil!” Along the way, hugs are shelled out and life lessons are learned such as “Murder, It’s just not cool”…Thanks, Tick.

Check out the official trailer for Amazon’s The Tick below:

The first thing any fan of the comic, or the earlier animated and live-action series’ will notice is sidekick Arthur’s moth costume, which has been given a bit of a high-tech upgrade in this series.

This will be Amazon’s first foray into superhero TV, and hopes to make a big impression on viewers starting next week at Comic-Con in San Diego where The Tick Takeover event will set up across the street from the confab and include a multi-room replica of The Tick’s warehouse set and other specific locations from the series.

Produced by The Tick creator Ben Edlund, Barry Josephson (Bones), and David Fury (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), The Tick also stars Valorie Curry, Jackie Earle Haley, Yara Martinez, Brendan Hines, Scott Speiser, and Michael Cerveris.

Below is the official synopsis for the series:

In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an underdog accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero. The pilot for The Tick starred Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) and Brendan Hines (Scorpion). The Tick is executive produced by Ben Edlund (Supernatural), Barry Josephson (Bones) and Barry Sonnenfeld (A Series of Unfortunate Events), directed by Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight), and written by Edlund. The Tick is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.

The Tick‘s 12 episodes will air as a two-part series. The first six episodes will land on Amazon on August 25th, while the second six episodes will air in 2018 at a still-unspecified date.
