The first two 12 minute chapters of the long-awaited Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome is now available online on YouTube!
What does this mean? It means we get to hear that familiar musical refrain and we get to hear people say frack a lot. Actually, a prequel-sequel of sorts, set between the epic Battlestar Galactica series and Caprica, the cylon origin story, Blood and Chrome tells the story of a young pilot by the name of William Adama, who fans will know as the future Admiral of the Battlestar Galactica, as originally portrayed by Edward James Olmos. Set during the original Cylon war, Bill (Luke Pasqualino) is a hotshot rookie pilot given his first assignment and it’s nothing like he expected.
How this series got shelved, I have no idea. Aside from the giggle-inducing shots at censoring naughty words with a well-timed but obvious locker door slam or dropped wrench clang, the series as a whole (as seen in the now available 2 parts embedded below) looks as dark and lush as the more recent edition of BSG, but with so many references to the classic 70s era series, complete with giant Cylon Basestars, oval shaped Cylon Raiders, and the Egyptian-styled pilot helmets for the humans. With a dash of humor and a bit ‘o sexy, Galactica is back, people! The rest of the series will be doled out over the next few weeks in 7-12 minute pieces, but if you don’t like your BSG chopped up into bite-sized pieces, you can wait until next year for Syfy to air it in full, followed by a DVD/Blu-Ray release soon after.
I’d include the descriptions that Syfy provided, but if you’re a BSG fan you don’t need much more prompting and you likely don’t want to read any potential spoilers. If you’re not a BSG fan, take some time to check this out. You need not know anything from the previous series to enjoy the story and the characters. Knowing that stuff only accentuates the experience.
