To celebrate the X-Men's 50th anniversary, creators Chris Claremont, Stan Lee and a gamut of others combine powers to deliver X-fans a brand new X-Men story.
November marks the 50th year anniversary for the original “Children of the Atom.”
While X-parties and binging on 50 years of X-Men comics and animated series may be deemed appropriate for this celebration, Marvel did us one better with the announcement of X-Men Gold #1, a feature length comic by some of the X-Men’s very first creators for a true celebration of the Merry Band of Mutants.
“Over the last 50 years, the X-Men have changed people’s lives, myself included,” says X-Men Senior Editor Nick Lowe.
X-Men: Gold #1 will feature 64 pages of the classic X-roster, such as Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Cyclops, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler with an in-story continuity by the one and only Chris Claremont and the legendary X-artist, Bob McLeod. And while that may be enough to satisfy the hungriest of X-fans, there’s more!
The one-off features new X-Men content from Stan Lee and Louise and Walt Simonson, with additional stories from Len Wein, Jorge Melina, Fabian Nicieza, Salvador Larroca, Roy Thomas, and Pat Olliffe. Fabian was largely responsible for the X-Men’s success in the 90′s, and Wein was the writer behind Giant Size X-Men #1, which introduced some of our favorite X-Men characters to date including Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, while adding Wolverine to the team, who had previously appeared in Incredible Hulk #180.
With a slated debut for November 13th, Marvel released a preview of the new comic featuring an inside look at some of the panels as well as cover art from Olivier Coipel and alternate cover art from John Cassaday. Check out some of the images below!
And in the words of Charles Xavier, “To me, my X-Men!”
