Last week we saw the arrival of the newest title in the Marvel NOW X-Universe with a brand new first issue.
Amazing X-Men #1 by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness was a guaranteed purchase for any X-fan, as it features the much anticipated return of Kurt Wagner, AKA Nightcrawler. Wagner died in the Second Coming event, sacrificing his life to save Hope Summers from the robotic Bastion. His return has been teased a few times since his death, and the fans have been baited with alternate reality versions like Kurt Waggoner in X-Treme X-Men and the Age of Apocalypse‘s Kurt Darkholme in Uncanny X-Force.
The newest first issue in the long history of X-Men firsts continues the ongoing schism of the X-Men’s world, with Brian Michael Bendis handling two titles focusing on both Cyclops (All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men), with Jason Aaron continuing his Jean Grey School based teams with Amazing and Wolverine and the X-Men. While Marvel NOW continues to drop even more first issues over the next few months, it seemed like a fitting time to take a look back at some of the monumental first issues that have made a lasting impression on the mythology of the X-Men.
After the events of the recent Battle of the Atom X-Event and the new launch of Amazing X-Men, The X-Universe continues to grow and thrive under the watch of Bendis and Aaron, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what comes next.
