It is official: Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D in select theaters. There was a bit of back-and-forth over whether or not that would be the case; yesterday, Warner Brothers issued a press release giving us the final word. I’m sure you all were on the edge of your seating waiting for the official ruling.
“Anticipating how audiences today embrace 3D, we designed and photographed the movie in a way that would allow Man of Steel to captivate those movie goers, while respecting fans who prefer a more traditional cinematic experience,” Snyder said in the aforementioned press release. We’ve taken great measures to ensure the film and the story come first, and 3D is meant as an enhancement.”
The film will be post-converted to 3D. Don’t worry, though; post-conversion techniques have matured enough over the past few years that the final product is very watchable. Even Joss Whedon is a fan! Base your pre-judgments on his The Avengers rather than Clash of the Titans. Also, remember this: just because a 3D version is produced doesn’t mean you have to watch in 3D.
All flavors of Man of Steel will be in theaters next June.
